5-7 King William Street Revitalisation

This is a current project! All information correct at time of writing; November 2024.

The Baysie Rollers are currently working on a transformation project that will revitalise the carpark outside 5 and 7 King William Street through public art, seating, planter boxes and more. 

The centrepiece of the transformation is a multi-building mural by local artist Graeme Miles Richards, which highlights both the history of the area and facets of present-day Bayswater. 

Also featured in the space are planter boxes with in-built seating, tables, and new trees!  Not just beautifying the area, these features: support our busy local cafes by providing overflow seating; encourage people to spend more time in our town centre, supporting local businesses; add trees to Bayswater's urban canopy, and bring more greenery to the high street!

The Process

Concepting began in 2021, before consultation with the community, local business owners and Development WA took place across 2022 and early 2023. 

Graeme commenced work on the mural in late 2022. A community painting day was held in February 2023, enabling community members to get involved in adding to the mural. The mural reached near completion a few months later. In 2024, bespoke planter boxes and tables were made by local organisation Respoke, and installed following landscaping works. Planting out the planter boxes and tree beds with native species then completed this stage of the project in October 2024!

To add a final splash of colour to this epic project, we'll be painting the car park floor (and adding some final touches to the mural). We're currently working with Graeme Miles Richards on designs, and plan to get painting underway in late 2024/early 2025.
