About the Baysie Rollers

The Baysie Rollers are Bayswater's local Town Team.

Established in 2015, we are a not-for-profit registered association made up of local volunteers focused on connecting the community and activating the Bayswater Town Centre.

Since our inception, we have delivered over 40 different initiatives and events, bringing tens of thousands of people together. The Baysie Rollers are driven by a dedicated core committee, and supported by a network of event volunteers. We also collaborate with other community groups, local businesses, local government, development groups and residents to bring our projects and events to life.

Our passionate and proactive network of community members volunteer their time to make Bayswater a better place to live, work and play. We do this primarily through placemaking projects and events that connect the community and activate our town centre.

We are based in the eastern suburbs of Perth, Western Australia. If you're in our neighbourhood, and you love what we do, why not join us!

Placemaking Projects

Placemaking is creating positive changes in a place or area. The Baysie Rollers have completed several placemaking projects in the Bayswater Town Centre to make spaces more comfortable, accessible, active and attractive.

Bert Wright Park Community Garden

The Baysie Rollers worked with local businesses Bayswater Landscapes and Saltbush Landscape Design to add a native garden and landscaping elements to the southern aspect of Bert Wright Park, creating a beautiful community garden.

Laneway Art Space

Bayswater loves art, so we gave it a home in the town centre. We helped establish the Laneway Art Space at the rear of 5 King William Street, in a space that was previously home to a disused carpark and storage area.

Whatley little laneway Mural

The Baysie Rollers helped facilitate the addition of an enormous mural to the laneway between the Bayswater Post Office precinct and the Laneway Art Space.

5-7 King William Street

The Baysie Rollers are currently working on a transformation project that will revitalise the carpark outside 5 and 7 King William Street through public art, seating, planter boxes and more.

Events

Events bring people to our town centre, and keep things fun! We love running events to help foster a sense of community for Bayswater residents, encourage support for our local businesses, and make our town centre a more vibrant place to be.

Baysie Arts & Street Festival

This is the event that put the Baysie Rollers on the map. In 2019 the Rollers held a huge street festival in the Bayswater town centre. It was the first of its kind in over three years and we had a huge turnout - over 15,000 people!

Our Core Values

#embracebaysie

It's on our shirts for a reason. We LOVE Bayswater and we want you to #embrace it too - that's why we're always working to make it better.

Action-focused

We are doers! Advocating for Bayswater is important, but our primary focus is getting things done on the ground for the benefit of the Bayswater community.

We collaborate broadly with other community groups, local businesses, local government, development groups and residents to deliver projects and events - we don't represent a particular interest group, we are just a bunch of community members looking to make Baysie better.

Creative!

Bayswater is full of artists, and so is the Baysie Rollers. We love the arts, and that's why many of the events and projects we work on focus on showcasing Bayswater's creative side.

By the community, for the community

That's right - the Baysie Rollers is made up of volunteer community members, working to improve Bayswater and connect our community. Are you a positive doer who lives locally and is ready to contribute to improving Baysie? Then come join us!

Join the Baysie Rollers

There's heaps of ways to engage with the Baysie Rollers. Join us as a fully-fledged Roller, or start by dipping your toe in as an event volunteer. You can also support us as a Business Member, or simply join our mailing list to stay up-to-date with what we're doing.

Recognition

Though we're not in it for the awards, the Baysie Rollers have been acknowledged for our work through the City of Bayswater's 'Active Citizenship of the Year' award (2021) - for initiatives that have benefited the community and helping to activate the town centre.

In 2018 we also received the Town Team Movement's 'Much Loved Events' award!
